The Gas Station Garage was designed to capture the feel of an antique gas station in its hey day by the waters of the New York Harbor.

The creamy white awning, neon lighting, backlit gas signs and antique gas pumps all add to the nostalgic feel.

Bright red metal cabinets line the back wall of the garage and faux brick covers all other wall surfaces. The garage doors, transformed into windows by a photo overlay of New York City’s waterfront in 1941, are flanked by bronze truss supports mimicking those seen on old bridges.

About half-way through the design process the client decided to go with an aviation theme, so the truss columns were removed and air foil, art-deco-style columns were designed and the garage-door graphics were changed to an airfield.

We softened basic garage elements to create this Asian-themed garage.

The walls are adorned with wainscoting separated by a stainless-steel chair rail and topped with jade-colored paint. Windows were covered with a custom designed geometric shape that mimics a gong.

We created a sense of serenity by designing a wall fountain transformed the stark soffits that masked the garage’s air-handling structure.

The clients’ modern and Asian art collection are displayed in the garage. Within the garage, there is a seating area with bucket-style seats and a flip down, flat screen television. The garage doors are coated with a vinyl graphic to mimic the slate found in the fountain, around the soffits, and the columns between the garage doors. The area above the doors is lit with LED lights tucked into a pewter-finish grate system that hides the garage doors when they are rolled up. The floor is finished in an epoxy bronze, and all doors are finished in a bronze laminate. The end result is a tranquil space, perfect for vehicle storage and a relaxing area to hang out.

To celebrate the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Super Bowl victory over the Arizona Cardinals in 2009 this client came to Michael Rhodig of GarageMahals to create the ultimate Pittsburgh Steelers garage. Rhodig designed the space using the teams’ colors to create a unique and fun space that any Steelers fan would envy. The garage not only features the team colors, but included team jerseys and helmets in their own display cases, as well as massive graphics covering the rear of the garage doors. Separating the black and yellow floor is the “Terrible Towel” graphic – a must have for every Pittsburgh fan.
